€1,000 and suspended sentence for breaching bail conditions

Axel Vella has been fined 1,000 euro and has been handed down a one-year prison sentence suspended for four years for breaching bail conditions in a drug trafficking case which is still pending before the Courts.

Inspector Mark Mercieca explained that the 24-year-old man from Senglea failed on two occasions to sign the bail book at the Police Station, and also left his home at a time when he had been ordered by the Court to remain indoors.

Defence lawyer Arthur Azzopardi stated that the accused had gone out on the night of Friday/Saturday to look for his partner who was in the Paceville area, in order to sort out some differences between them.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia took note of accused’s conduct sheet and warned him not to repeat his mistake.
