€4.9 million in tax refund on vehicles registered in 2008

The Government launched the last phase of the extra tax refund scheme, which was paid on vehicles registration between 2004 and 2008. This year, the eligible vehicles are those registered in Malta from the 1st January 2008 until the 31st December 2008.

Owners of vehicles registered in Malta during 2008 may now apply until the 26th April to be refunded the extra tax that they had paid on vehicles registration.

Transport Minister, Ian Borg, recalled that the Government started the tax refund scheme six years ago and 29,000 persons were refunded after they had paid the tax.

This means that almost €24 million were refunded. Minister Borg said that this year the Government will distribute the last refund, amounting to €4.9 million, on which 6,300 persons are eligible. He added that Transport Malta will issue applications for the eligible persons to apply by the 26th April and refunds will be given by the end of May.
