Eight people injured in Birkirkara accident – one of the drivers leaves scene

Eight people had to be admitted to Mater Dei Hospital late last night after they were involved in a traffic accident in Birkirkara.

The accident happened at around 12.45am in Mannarino Road between a Ford Transit minibus and a Volkswagen Polo. As a result of the accident the minibus crashed into the wall of a showroom located in that road.


The minibus driver and his seven passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment. The 56-year-old driver from San Gwann suffered slight injuries while four of the passengers suffered serious injuries and three others only slight injuries. No one is in danger of dying.

Meanwhile the Police said that the driver of the Volkswagen Polo left the scene of the accident and has not yet been identified.

Duty Magistrate Dr J Mifsud has opened an inquiry and appointed several experts to assist him on the case.
