Elderly couple return from mass to find house ransacked

The Police are investigating the theft of thousands of euro in cash and a considerable amount of jewellery from a private residence in Triq Santa Marija, Zebbug.

It results from enquiries made by TVM that the robbery occurred at some time between 6.00 and 7.00 a.m., when the elderly couple were at mass. The thief or thieves entered the residence of the couple, who are both in their seventies, by forcing open the door to the garage.

Some 5,000 euro in cash were stolen from the house, as well as gold and silver articles whose value has not been quantified, but which can exceed hundreds of euro.

TVM is informed that the couple, a 72-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife, had left the house to go to 6.00 a.m. mass, and when they returned an hour later, they found their home had been ransacked.

District Police are investigating the robbery. Magistrate Charmaine Galea is conducting an inquiry, assisted by a number of Court-appointed experts.
