Elderly man unaccounted for in French floods – 1,600 persons evacuated

1,600 persons have been evacuated in France after parts of the country were hit by floods.

Many of the evacuees were campers. It is presently being reported that a 70-year-old man who was looking after a group of children at a campsite is unaccounted for.

Grad, Ardeche and Drome are the worst effected areas, and more than 400 firemen and four helicopters are assisting in a rescue operation.

The floods followed a heatwave in France and in several other European countries.
