An elderly 78-year-woman, a resident of Palermo, got hold of a trowel and some cement in order to repair a pavement in her street.
Nanna Giovanna, as the woman is known in the Tommaso Natale quarters of Palermo, seems to have got fed up with waiting for the authorities to repair the pavement after it had got damaged during installation works for a fibre optic cable.
The photograph of the elderly woman repairing the pavement spread quickly on the social media, with many praising her initiative. Giovanna, however, may end up being fined, as the pavement is not her property but is owned by the State.
Many who saw the photograph commented that the woman deserves a reward for managing to repair the pavement at very little cost, whereas it would have cost the authorities thousands of euro.
