Regional elections in northern Spain during the Covid-19 crisis

The northern region of Spain, including the Basque region and Galicia, are facing a new challenge with a further outbreak of COVID-19, but tomorrow voters are expected to vote in the first regional election since the outbreak of pandemic last March.

The Bilbao authorities have increased the number of voting booths by 25% to enable social distancing between the voters.

The elections in the two regions should have been held in April but were postponed because of the general lockdown throughout Spain at the beginning of March.

The authorities said that about 450 persons diagnosed with COVID-19 in the regions will not be permitted to vote.
