EU apologises to Italy

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has apologized to Italy for not being there when the pandemic broke out in this country.

“But saying sorry only counts for something if it changes behaviour and the truth is too that it did not take long before everyone realised that we must protect each other to protect ourselves,” said the President.

The President of the European Commission said that the Coronavirus tragedy should not serve to make European governments populist and called for them not to hide facts about the pandemic.

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio praised von der Leyen’s statement and said this was good for Europe.
