EU to tighten rules on Covid vaccine exports

The European Union will be stricter in the regulations on the export of Covid vaccines amid a dispute with AstraZeneca over a substantial reduction in the supply of vaccines it will provide to the 27 countries.

Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said the European Union would take whatever action it deemed necessary to protect its citizens.

Reduced supplies will also hit the UK as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has also been approved in the UK.

AstraZeneca had pledged to supply around 80 million doses to the 27 countries of the European Union by March but in recent days has said supply will be reduced by sixty percent in the first quarter of the year for 31 million doses of vaccine.
