The public car park project in Birżebbuġa , situated next to the Freeport, has entered the evaluation phase.
In a statement the Government said that eight companies had shown interest in this project, which would be carried out by the Malta Freeport Corporation with an investment of € 3.2 million by the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection.
This process is expected to take up to four weeks, after which a contract must be entered into for works to start as soon as possible once the contractor has been selected.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg said that the Government was determined to continue investing in various solutions for the transport sector, from efficient infrastructure to more sustainable transport and to similar parking solutions.
The Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli said that this investment was crucial for this area which had strong tourist potential, and complemented other projects such as the Family Park in Benghajsa, the Regeneration of St. Patrick’s Street, and studies at the Freeport to carry out the shore-to-ship project.
