Expenses to restore Anglican pro cathedral double to €7 million

With works to restore the Anglican St Paul’s pro-cathedral in Valletta due to start, it has been announced that the expenses have substantially increased.

During a press conference, the environmental organisation, Save Valletta Skyline Appeal said that the expenses have doubled and are now estimated to have reached over €7 million.

Among the reasons for this discrepancy is the fact that when the estimate of the expenses involved was given 18 months ago, the detailed technical information of the damage at the cathedral was not yet available. Apart from this, the prices in the construction industry have gone up.

To date, around €1 million in private donations have been collected, and €1.2 million in EU funds have also been obtained. An application for a further €5 million in European funds has also been made.
