Fearne asks EC to negotiate purchase of Sputnik V vaccine

Deputy PM and Health Minister Chris Fearne said that the negotiations to purchase the Russian vaccine, Sputnik V should be done jointly by the EU.

Minister Fearne was quoted by the authoritative site Politico following a virtual meeting held yesterday between EU health ministers.

German Health Minister Jens Spahn told the other European Ministers that Germany has started negotiating to purchase Sputnik V.

According to three European diplomats, the German Minister announced this shortly after the PM of Bavaria Markus Soder told journalists that the region was in discussions with Russia to buy 2.5 million doses of the vaccine.

Minister Fearne was quoted as saying that he had asked the European Commission to start negotiations so that it will be the one to negotiate for the Sputnik V.  In this way all European countries can start making use of this vaccine which was approved by the European Medicines Agency.
