All the persons were assisted due to rough seas as a result of the Northwest strong wind on the Maltese Islands. A spokesperson for the Red Cross society said that a red flat was placed today at the bay as a warning on the rough sea. However, he said, despite the warning and notices by life guards for people to stay away, a number of persons risked their lives by swimming while some of them found themselves in difficulty.

Two life guards, together with a medical team member, assisted in the rescue of the youths who were then taken to hospital. Three of the persons were drowning as a result of the amount of water they swallowed. Three ambulances arrived on site and took the youths to Mater Dei for treatment. The female teenager was certified in critical condition however the youths’ condition is not yet known.
