VIDEO: “It felt like the death of my father” – crew member on Alitalia’s final flight
It was an emotional moment last Thursday evening for the crew on Alitalia’s final flight after it was declared to be bankrupt.
The last flight took place yesterday evening at about 11 pm from the Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome.
In comments to journalists, the crew members thanked passengers for their loyalty to that which up to yesterday was Italy’s National Airline.
One crew member said she could not cope with the emotion which she said felt like having lost her father.
Another crew member lamented for the end of her 30-year career with Alitalia and said it was one of the worst things she has experienced.
A passenger on board said the Flight Captain had delivered an emotional speech relating the history of Alitalia and how his employment with the airline had helped him build and bring up a family.
Their arrival at the airport was marked with signs of deep emotion as the crew shed tears and hugged each other for the last time as work colleagues.
