VIDEO: Repubblika files Judicial Protest after not being allowed to enter Parliament to follow today’s debate

Għaqda Repubblika has filed a Judicial Protest after this morning its members were not allowed into the Strangers Gallery in Parliament to enable them to follow the debate on the Report of the Public Inquiry on the homicide of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The Protest was filed against House President Dr Anġlu Farrugia and the Clerk of the House, Raymond Scicluna. The Protest was signed by lawyers Dr Pawlu Borg Olivier and Dr Eve Borg Costanzi. The Protest states the pandemic was used as a weak excuse to deprive them of their right as citizens to directly observe the debate and the legislative process.

The Protest states that a request had been made to the Clerk of the House for 30 of its members to be able to follow today’s debate bu this request had been rejected. It claimed this was a serious abuse and an indiscretion by the Speaker and the Clerk of the House to restrict entrance to the Chamber. It also stated this is not the first time that such a decision has been taken in a matter that is of public interest.
