The first 20 singers for the Malta JESC 2017 announced

The list was announced of 20 singers which were selected among 84 submissions for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

10 finalist singers will now be selected from this list so that eventually the public will select the singer that will represent Malta in Georgia next November.

PBS Chief Executive, John Bundy, said that the young singers were of such high standard that it was decided that instead of choosing immediately the 10 finalists, a list of 20 singers are selected.

“Even the jury votes was close on these songs and on singers, so we decided to select 20 from which 10 finalists are chosen and these will compete at the television spectacle – a television show – and through the Maltese and Gozitan public’s 100% televoting the selection can be made of the singer who will represent Malta in Georgia next November”.

Mr Bundy said that the selection of the song that will represent Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is organised by the Public Broadcasting Services Limited. Therefore, the selected singers will sing songs of already established artists.

“The 20 songs we chose are cover versions of already known singers that the young singers will sing. The 10 finalists will pass through the same system, that is they will sing cover versions songs and the public with 100% televoting will not select the song but the singer who will represent Malta in Georgia next November”, Mr Bundy said.
