Five men arrested in connection with alleged trafficking and possession of drugs

Five men were arrested over the last few hours by Police from the Anti-Drug Squad in three operations in connection with drug trafficking investigations.

In the first operation in Tarxien, a 43-year-old man was arrested after the Police observed him passing on a suspicious substance to someone else. The Police arrested the man and from a search carried out on his vehicle and on his person they found he was in possession of various packages containing substances suspected to be heroin and cocaine.  The man was arraigned this morning in front of Magistrate Dr Donatella Frendo Dimech, charged with trafficking and possession of drugs as well as of being a relapser. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 18 months in jail and fined €500.

The operation then continued in Cospicua. The Police had information about the suspected movements of a vehicle in which there were two people. The vehicle was stopped by the Police and a 23-year-old man and a 33-year-0ld men were arrested.  From a search which was carried out, they were found to be in possession of substances, suspected to be cannabis and cocaine.

In further investigations, the Police continued to follow another vehicle this time in Kalkara. After they stopped it, a search was carried out and the two men in the car, one aged 30 and another aged 37, were found in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis and cocaine.

The investigations into these four people continue.
