Five work-related fatalities in nine months

This morning’s incident, in which a worker lost his life when the crane he was driving fell into the sea, is the fifth work-related fatality since the beginning of the year. This was stated by OHSA, the Authority for Health and Safety at Work, in a statement which highlighted the importance of places of work evaluating existing dangers as required by law.

The OHSA said that as investigations were still ongoing, it would not enter into the merits of this case, but pointed out that this incident was proof that it was not just construction sites which could endanger workers’ lives. In fact only two of the five fatalities this year had occurred at construction sites.
