Over the last six years more than 700 persons arraigned for trafficking of drugs

Over 700 persons were arraigned in Court on the charge of drugs trafficking over the last six years while 3,000 others were arraigned for possession.

In giving the information the Minister for Internal Affairs and National Security Michael Farrugia was replying to a Parliamentary Question posed by Labour MP Byron Camilleri.

Minister Farrugia said that 749 persons were arraigned for trafficking and 3,437 others for possession.

Last year 646 persons appeared in Court or before a purpose-established Tribunal for possession while 133 appeared in Court on trafficking.

In another reply to the same MP, Minister Farrugia said that over the last six years 450 persons were arraigned for attacks on members of the Police Corps. Of these, 324 were found guilty of the accusations. During last year 58 persons were also arraigned on this charge and 30 were found guilty.
