In US: Dies when trying to break world motorcycle jump record – had just become a father
Motorcross daredevil Alex Harvill lost his life when trying to break the world record for the longest motorcycle ramp jump, in the hope of getting his name into the Guinness Book of World Records.
The 28-year-old US athlete died during an unsuccessful practice run in Washington. Harvill had been in training for a fortnight with the aim of attempting the 107-metre jump with his motorcycle, and eventually to repeat the spectacular jump in public during the Moses Lake Airshow. Harvill had been excitedly awaiting this spectacle, as evidenced by the numerous photographs and video clips he posted recently on his Instagram social profile.
Harvill leaves behind three children. He and his wife Jessica had recently become parents to another child.
