Former European Commissioner Karmenu Vella appointed as aviation consultant

The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg has appointed the former European Commissioner Karmenu Vella as a consultant on aviation.

Minister Ian Borg said that Karmenu Vella has vast experience in various important sectors, not least of which is aviation.

Karmenu Vella thanked Minister Borg for the trust he has shown in him. He added that although he is no longer directly involved in politics, he still looks forward to giving a contribution so that the experience he has obtained over the years can be used for the country to continue moving forward in various sectors, including aviation.

Vella served as Minster responsible for Public Works between 1981 and 1983, Minister responsible for Industry and Trade between 1984 and 1987, Minister responsible for Tourism between 1996 and 1998 and Minister responsible for Tourism and Aviation between 2013 and 2014. He served as European Commissioner for the Environment, the Maritime Sector and Fisheries between 2014 and 2019.
