Four killed in attack on Chinese consulate in Pakistan

Four people were killed, including two police officers, in an attack on the Chinese consulate in the city of Karachi in Pakistan.

The four armed men tried to enter the consulate but were stopped by a security guard. Three of the aggressors and the police officer were killed as shots were fired.

There is a heavy presence of police in the area, which has been closed off to the public. A separatist group from the province of Balochistan took responsibility for the attack.

China, which neighbours Pakistan, is a main ally and benefactor of the country, as it invests a large amount of money in infrastructural projects. Balochistan is the poorest province in Pakistan and is at the centre of major Chinese investments.
