France to start considering sex with children under the age of 15 as rape

The French Parliament has passed a law through which sex with children below the age of 15 will be considered as rape, with a possible maximum 20-year penalty.

With this step, France has joined many Western European countries that already consider sex with persons under the age of 15 as rape.

As the age of consent in France was 15 years, prosecutors would have to provide evidence that the sexual act was not consensual in order to be able to prove guilt.

Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti described this law as historic, both for children and for French society.
