Gay couple given the right to live and work in Hong Kong

Two English women who are married to each other have been given the right to live and work in Hong Kong by the highest Court in the territory.

After one of the women had been offered a job in Hong Kong, the authorities refused to issue a visa for her wife, to whom she had been married by civil union since 2011.

Although discrimination based on sexual orientation is illegal in Hong Kong, marriages between same sex couples are not recognised.

This Court decision is expected to open the doors for more LGBTIQ couples to be able to work in this financial centre in Asia.
