Gender-Based and Domestic Violence Unit inaugurated in the Police Force

The Section on Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence in the Police Force was officially inaugurated.

The Commissioner of Police, Angelo Gafà, said that in the first two months of operation the unit had received more than 270 reports of domestic violence. One third of the reports were made by men.

The Minister for the Interior and National Security, Byron Camilleri, said the Police Force was showing itself to be a supporter for victims of domestic violence.

The Prime Minister’s wife, Lydia Abela, said that on the sixteenth day of activism on domestic violence, she wanted to send a message of encouragement to the victims not to be afraid to report cases of abuse and seek help.
