Scores feared dead after boat capsizes off Tunisian coast

Scores of persons are suspected to have perished after their boat capsized just off the Tunisian coast.

About 16 persons were rescued but between 50 and 70 other persons are feared to have died.

It was reported the boat was packed with immigrants who departed from Zuwara, in Libya.

Tunisia’s Defence Minister said he had despatched a rescue boat when he received reports about the boat and the immigrants. He said that when the naval boat he despatched arrived, a fishing boat had already started rescuing people.
