Giovanni Buttigieg appointed Vice President on UN committee

Giovanni Buttigieg, Malta’s Permanent Representative Deputy at the United Nations has been elected as Vice President of the UN’s Committee for Programme Coordination (CPC), a Committee to which Malta was elected last September.

The CPC is the UN’s main body for planning and prioritisation as well as evaluating achieved results.

This position continues to affirm Malta’s standing in the UN and is an integral part of Malta’s efforts to be a part of the UN’s Security Council in the near future.

The last time that Malta held this position was in 1971 when it proposed the establishment of a UN Office for the Seas to evaluate the need for an international strategy for oceans.
