Goats on the cliff edge at Wied iż-Żurrieq – is the area their natural habitat?
A number of goats have been seen roaming on the cliff edge at Wied iż-Żurrieq, in the Munqar area. Some six goats are visible in this photograph, taken yesterday from the Ħnejja area.
After the photograph was posted on social media, many ventured the opinion that the cliff edge is a natural habitat for goats, as it is a place where they can graze. Others, however, countered that unless the goats are used to an outdoor life and to living in the area, they might find it difficult to climb up again.
In fact the area where the goats were seen is narrow and very high, with sheer rockface in many parts, so much so that people rarely venture down.
Persons who spoke with TVM said the goats probably made their escape from some farm, and although they will manage to forage for food, they might encounter problems with finding drinking water.
