Gorg ‘ix-Xemx’ Mifsud passes away – he dedicated his life to folklore and to the sick in Gozo
Ġorġ Mifsud, known as ‘ix-Xemx’, who spent his whole life working as a nurse at the Gozo general hospital, has passed away.
Ġorġ, who died at the age of 81, is the father of four.
His memory will remain alive in various people in Gozo as throughout his life he has helped all those who have passed through the Gozo hospital.
His work however, did not stop between the four walls of the hospital. An amateur folklore musician he set up the first group of traditional musicians.
He also loved Valletta 2018, and wanted to wholeheartedly be a part of it, and enjoy this year packed with activities.
Last year, Ġorġ recounted his experiences about the wind and sea in one of the V18 projects entitled, il-Pinnuri. With the help of these and other stories by residents from all around the Maltese islands – Mgarr, Marsaxlolk, Sliema and Għarb – permanent works of art were created, il-Pinnur, a short distance away from the St Dimitri chapel.
