From the beginning of next month, around 1,300 Gozitan students and educators will be able to benefit from a subsidy on the fast ferry fare when crossing to Malta for work or education purposes. This will be possible through the EDU Fast Ferry Scheme, details of which were provided by the Minister for Education, Justyne Caruana.
For this service, operators will issue an EDU Fast Ferry Card. Each time the card is used, a refund will be given for each trip up to a maximum of
€ 250 per year. The card can be used with both fast ferry service operators during the scholastic period in any year when school is in session. Payment is made in arrears, quarterly. Eligible students and educators must apply online from the Ministry of Education website by 3 November at the latest.
Meanwhile, in a statement the Gozitan Workers Association in Malta asked the Ministry for Gozo to explore the possibility of this initiative also applying to all workers. The association requested that the travel subsidy granted by the Ministry be revised to reflect current travel costs.
