A man was remanded in custody after he was arraigned in Court this morning charged with allegedly forcing his girlfriend, who has mental health problems, to have sexual relations against her will.
The 26-year old from Siġġiewi denied in Court that he raped his 19-year old girlfriend. She refused to have sexual relations with her boyfriend, with the latter even grabbing her by the neck and allegedly forced her to have sex.
Defence lawyer Leslie Cuschieri told the Court that he is ready to request an analysis of the mental state of his client if the request for his release from custody is not upheld. He remarked that the accused lives with his mother and may lose his job.
Despite the plea, Magistrate Audrey Demicoli did not release the man from custody until the victim testifies due to obstacles to the evidence
