Greece: Residents evacuated from villages as wildfires spread in a forest
In Greece, wildfires engulfed a forest in the western part of the country and also reached the beach in Peloponnese city.
The authorities ordered the evacuation of various villages, including those close to the shoreline as fires spread in a principal highway that connects the capital Athens with the third largest city in Greece.
Some 145 firefighters are involved in an operation to control the wildfires, assisted by eight helicopters, eight planes and also through a boat at sea.
Reports said that at least five persons were hospitalised for treatment due to smoke inhalation.
Greek authorities have warned people about the high risk of the fires during the coming week, as a dangerous heatwave is expected to hit the country.
Temperatures are expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius.
