GRTU welcomes warning system by local wardens

The Maltese Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises, GRTU, has welcomed the news by LESA that local wardens have issued warnings to some 5,400 drivers, following the launch of the warning system on six contraventions earlier this year.

The GRTU said this had been one of its proposals for reform, through which local wardens would also be educating and issung warnings besides issuing tickets.

The GRTU reiterated that all abusers should be penalised, but had expressed its concern in regard to drivers whose livelihood depended on road usage, including delivery persons.

The GRTU added that it supports a proposal for harsher penalties in regard to use of mobiles during driving.
