French journalists harass women on Facebook

A number of French journalists have been suspended and others dismissed following allegations of having harassed women through the use of a private group on Facebook.

The League of LOL was being used to harass women, including journalists, through sexual jokes and pornographic images.

All was revealed by the newspaper ‘Libération’ after a number of women spoke out. ‘Libération’s’ online editor is one of the suspended journalists.

It is reported these journalists fabricated an anonymous profile on Twitter to enable them to harass journalists, writers and female activists.

The freelance journalist Vincent Glad, who also works for ‘Libération’, admitted to having set up the group in 2009. He has also been suspended and has now apologised and said he realises that his conduct was not acceptable.

The French Minister for Digital Affairs, Mounir Mahjoubi, has described members of the League of LOL as being a bunch of losers.
