Menaced and robbed elderly woman in a subway near Mater Dei Hospital

Gareth Chlach, who is 21, admitted that on 3rd January he menaced a 71-year-old woman and robbed her of her purse in a subway near Mater Dei Hospital. He was charged with having committed a criminal act while on a sentence handed to him previously.

Police Inspectors Fabian Fleri and Lydon Zammit said the accused was identified from security camera footage and from the description given by the woman. He admitted the offence to Police and apologised. They advised against him being given a prison sentence as he is undergoing social problems. Magistrate Lia placed him on Probation for a three-year period and among other conditions ordered him not to approach the victim.
