House of Representatives expected to approve Bill to amend electoral law

The House of Representatives is expected to approve the Bill to amend the electoral law in all its stages.

Justice Minister Owen Bonnici who submitted the Bill mentioned various amendments to this law including the new system of electronic vote counting.

He said that the electronic vote counting would start after a manual verification of the ballots is carried out.

Opposition Leader Clyde Puli said that because of flaws which emerged during the trial run of the electronic system, the Opposition had asked for amendments to ensure that the will of the people would be guaranteed. For this reason, this hybrid system will be adopted.
