Hurricane Irma: Six die in home for the elderly

Hurricane Irma has led to the deaths of six elderly inmates recovering at a rehabilitation home for the elderly in Florida, when the home ended up without electric power as a result of the storm.

Police said that 115 residents were evacuated from the same facility. It is estimated that some ten million  residents in the mid-US are still without power supplies as a result of the hurricane.

A week after Hurricane Irma left 40 dead and a trail of devastation in the Caribbean, many residents feel they have been abandoned, as they still don’t have power and are very concerned about the shortage of food and water.
