Strong hurricane-force winds have hit the central and northern areas of Portugal, leaving some 300,000 households without electricity supplies.
Hurricane Leslie, as this storm has been named, hit the country during Saturday night, with wind speeds of 176 km per hour.
Civil Defence officials said 27 persons had suffered slight injuries. They added that some areas were flooded, hundreds of trees had been uprooted, and a number of flights had been cancelled.
The storm, one of the strongest to ever hit the country, is now moving across the northern part of Spain.
