“I remain sensitive to the cry of the people” – PM on immigration

Prime Minister and Labour Party leader, Robert Abela, said that he is sensitive to the cry of the people on the immigration issue and that he listened to the people’s views and he has to provide the replies himself. Dr Abela was speaking during an interview on a ONE TV programme, adding that there is no solution for the whole problem and called on people to support him on the fact that life should win.

During the interview on ONE Television, Dr Robert Abela said on the immigration issue he prefers to be honest and is not always praised, however he explained that there is no solution for the whole problem of immigration.

Dr Abela said that this is not a problem that the country is facing for the first time and he referred to August figures, which each year show an increase in the number of immigrants arriving in our country. He stated that the amount of immigrants who arrived since March is less than that of the previous year. The Prime Minister said that he has a choice on whether he allows 70 persons to drown and is responsible for their death, or to rescue them. He said that just under half of the immigrants rescued during the Covid situation are in isolation.

Dr Abela called on the people to support him on this situation because life should win. He said that the necessary precautions need to be taken until a vaccine is available, adding that this is a moment that calls for national unity.
