“I thought I was hearing petards from the festa … when I went down I saw the cars were on fire” – vehicle owner

This morning started on a different note for John Cortis from Qormi.

He told TVM that early this morning he smelled something burning and what he thought were petards from the festa. In fact he called his wife and told her that the festa celebrations were still going on.

However, what he heard at around 3am were not petards. Shortly afterwards he received a phone call from the Qormi police station for him to go there because his six vehicles were on fire.

Speaking to TVM, Cortis said he could not believe it at first, but as soon as he went there he was met by a sight he never expected – all six of his cars were on fire.

He explained that this was private land belonging to his friends and he had been parking his cars there for the last year without any problems.
