IĠM condemns threatening letter sent to a journalist

The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) condemned threats made to a journalist earlier on Saturday.

In a statement, IĠM said it was informed that the female journalist lodged a report with the Police after she received a threatening letter at home.

Earlier on Saturday, ONE journalist Nichole Buttigieg published on the social media a handwritten letter consisting of foul language and threats.

IĠM expressed solidarity with the journalist, adding that no form of threats and intimidation on members of the journalism corp will be tolerated.

The Institute recalled that this case follows a series of incidents in recent days during which journalists were threatened, intimidated, pushed and pelted with objects.

The Institute called on the Police Force to offer the necessary protection to journalists and to investigate these cases.
