Ikea shells out 41 million after two year old boy dies as a result of falling chest of drawers

The Swedish furniture company IKEA agreed to pay € 41 million to the parents of a child who died after a piece of furniture fell on him.

Jozed Dudek, two, died in May 2017 when a chest of drawers fell on top of him.

Following the death of three other children, there had been a call for the recovery of the furniture (weighing 32kg) from the market the previous year due to security aspects.

An Ikea spokesperson said that while nothing could compensate for the loss of the child, t was pleased to have reached an agreement and that the company was committed to working to ensure that its furniture was safer.
