Pretty Bay makes room for cycles and skateboards

A skatepark in the southern part of Malta has been inaugurated … the brainchild of a suggestion by youths from Birżebbuġa that has now resulted in a skatepark at Pretty Bay.

Now that the suggestion has been accomplished many can practice their skateboards and cycling hobby. The project, managed by the President’s Trust with the collaboration of the Ministry for Tourism and local enterprises, required an investment of €300,000.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said the project named ‘SPARK’ came into being after Birżebbuġa youths spoke with youth workers from the Youth Agency of their desire to have a skatepark in the area.

Discussions started with the President’s Trust and meetings were held with local contractors and entrepreneurs from the area who donated funds and provided services for the project to be accomplished.

Sarah Borda Bondin, the President’s Trust Director, said the skatepark offers a secure environment for youths to practice their hobby and together with your workers enables them to play a more active part in society.

The Birżebbuġa Local Council and the Youth Agency will be responsible for the ‘park’s upkeep and maintenance.
