Cab driver said horse slipped on oil patch

Following a picture that appeared on social media of a mare stretched out on the ground in a Pietà road, TVM spoke to the cab driver.

He said the horse was laid low after slipping on a patch of oil in the road. He complained that he feels upset that when he tried to raise the mare on her legs, instead of finding people to help him, they only hindered him.

Animal Welfare officials inspected the horse and the driver said they had found it in a good condition.

TVM contacted Animal Welfare for their comment who confirmed they had not received any report about the case and appealed that in future similar incidents should be reported on emergency number 1717.

Contacted by TVM, Animal Welfare Commissioner Emanuel Buhagiar said there should be more regulations to safeguard horse welfare.
