The Labour Party has for the first time ever won majority control of the Valletta Local Council.

Alfred Zammit was elected as the first Labour Mayor of the capital city while Raymond Azzopardi will be the Deputy Mayor.

The PL has elected four councillors and the PN has elected three.

Alfred Zammit, Ray Azzopardi, Lian Pace and Jurgen Briffa were elected in the name of the PL. Christian Micallef, Mark Spiteri Lucas and Vincent Fabri were elected for the PN.

In a  Tweet, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said it is indeed a great feat to be proud of that for the first time in history the Valletta Local Council is to be managed by a majority of PL Councillors.
