President Emeritus reacts to hate comments

President Emeritus Marie Louise Coleiro Preca has said that Maltese society should do its utmost to eliminate hate speech.

She was speaking in light of reports carried by ‘The Times of Malta’ that highlighted hate comments on social media related to the unrest at the Ħal Far Centre for Immigrants.

The President Emeritus said that although the freedom of expression is sacrosanct, when hate speech and comments are aired, this is an abuse of this right as well as being an infringement on the rights of others.
