President presides meeting of Board of Governors of the Foundation for Mediterranean Tourism

President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said that tourism is a catalyst for peace and brings people together. She was speaking while presiding a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Foundation for Mediterranean Tourism in the presence of the General Secretary of the world organisation for tourism, Zurab Pololikashvili.

The President said the Foundation is working so that Mediterranean countries instead of competing against each other work together to promote the whole region as a tourist destination by offering a better product while decreasing poverty. She said the Foundation is trying to ensure that what prevails in the Mediterranean is adopted in other regions.

Zurab Pololikashvili said the ambition of the organisation is to ensure that more country leaders support tourism. He mentioned China as being an interesting market because Chinese tourists are interested in visiting several countries and thus the Mediterranean region is ideal as their tourist location.
