Sport sector benefits from an added €8 million Budget allocation

The Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Voluntary Work, Clifton Grima, said the past Budget was the largest all-time investment in the sport sector.

During a media conference regarding the Budget for the coming year, PS Grima said that Sport Malta will have an allocation of more than €20 million, an increase of €8 million over last year. He listed a number of projects that are taking place or will take place, including a professional swimming pool in Cospicua and the Gozo Sport Pavilion.

Dr Grima aso said there is a €5 million investment for athletes from ten different disciplines as preparations for the Small Countries Games event.

He explained that Sport Malta prepares a great number of sport programmes in which hundreds of persons compete in different disciplines. He said that preparations are already underway for the Special Olympics that will take place in May next year.

The Parliamentary Secretary also spoke of voluntary work and the schemes being offered by the Government for these activities.
