Immigration issue can be resolved if everyone follows the rules – PM

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has stated that the immigration issue, in light of the case of the Aquarius, is a situation within the European Union which can be resolved through everyone following international rules.

Dr Muscat added that he had agreed, when speaking with French President Emmanuel Macron,  that immigration should be discussd at European level, and also stated that he would be meeting with the new Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte during the summit of the Council of the European Union in Brussels towards the end of June.

Dr Muscat said that the friendship between Malta and Italy went through some turmoil in recent days, but he was certain solutions would be found, always in line with international regulations. Asked to comment by TVM about what had taken place yesterday when the Cinque Stelle Party had left the Chamber during a sitting of the Regional Parliament when President Coleiro Preca was about to address the Parliament, Dr Muscat replied that the President of the Regional Parliament had dissociated himself from what had taken place.
