Impeachment proceedings against President Trump

In the USA, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, agreed to initiate impeachment proceedings against US President Donald Trump, who is allegedly going to be charged with abuse of power.

“The facts are uncontested. The president abused his power for his own personal political benefit, at the expense of our national security, by withholding military aid and crucial Oval Office meeting, in exchange for an announcement of an investigation into his political rival,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi argued that democracy was under threat because of President Trump and that Congress could not but act. She spoke just days after the Judicial Committee of Congress considered the accusation of abuse of power by Trump. On his part Trump said procedures should be as swift as possible so that the country return to normality.

Pelosi said that there were clear facts that showed the President abused his power for his own gain and undermined national security when he put pressure on Ukraine to conduct an investigation on its political rival.

Three legal expert who s gave their testimony before the Congress Judicial Committee said that by his action Trump wanted to tarnish the reputation of Biden’s before the presidential elections next year.
